Air/Fuel Diagnostics

Despite similar appearances, not all air-fuel sensors are the same. Learning how they work at a deeper level is critical to pinpointing faults related to air/fuel delivery and emissions. Learn how the vehicle’s personal emissions analyzers function, affect fuel trims and how they fail—and how to repair them correctly. Oxygen sensors are much more than emissions devices needed to pass inspection—they’re critical components in vehicle driveability and can reveal a host of information about how a vehicle is operating if you can interpret the data they provide.

What you will learn:

  • Air-fuel sensor design, operation, diagnostics and repair

  • Subtle but important differences between the different types of sensor construction

  • Proper diagnostic techniques for all air-fuel sensor designs

  • Voltage value testing and how to determine if a sensor’s performance has degraded over time

  • Using enhanced scan data as well as generic OBD data values—and why you should check both
